Andy Slaymaker

I’ve challenged myself to paint 5 portraits in 5 days in an attempt to loosen up and not overthink my process. This is the first one: Andy Slaymaker of the band Balance and Composure.

This was my first 16″x20″ painting, and it was a little bit of an experiment for me.  I painted Kate’s face as usual and added colorful flourishes over her hair using a palette knife.  My original mock-up had way less color, so I might have overdone the effect a bit.  Overall, I’m happy with it.

I’m still working on acrylic portraits and this is my favorite so far.  I managed to get smoother skin tones than my previous portrait attempts.  This one took about 13-14 hours.
